In response to NotAScientist: Thank you for your perspective. I agree with you about a lesson being taught here, and you're right, it is the government who is the vilain arranging the games, so I stand corrected and have amended the post accordingly.

I'm all for lessons being taught through entertainment. But do we really need to have our young people watch a movie or read a book like this to teach them that oppressive governments and violence toward each other is wrong? That's why kids study history.

There is an allure that not many discuss today. And Satan is very good at using the allure of fantastic and exciting stylized special effects action-adventure fiction that draws young people in (e.g., vampires, wizards, serial killers, etc.) It can become addictive and harmful to the soul. That's where I'm coming from. The Bible warns against having a love for the world's ways and Hunger Games is simply one more in a long line of the latest and greatest crazes in books and movies. It's critical that families use biblical discernment in their media choices. But in all this, God holds parents responsible for their children and they must answer to him in how they raise them and what they allow them to feed on. Thanks for the discussion!

You do understand that the book and film use violence as a way to teach a lesson...that this is not the way a society should turn, and that 'The Hunger Games' within the story are decidedly a negative thing.

The villain is the government that is putting these games together, and the heroes do all they can to prevent it from happening again.

You should really read things before objecting to them.

This is a very good subject. How do we attract the attention of today's youth. Our normal Sunday religious event has to change. We must all continue to seek the Lord through prayer for every young person that comes into our path.
