Why should I submit?
To submit means to ‘place yourself under’ or ‘to yield yourself to’ an authority. Many of today’s problems are the result of people not submitting to authority, primarily God’s authority. There is a huge lack of submission: to government, to parents, to the church, to employers, to teachers, and to each other. When we don’t submit to those in authority that God has placed over us, there is chaos…and sin!
Job 22:21
Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. [God]
Romans 8:7
the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. [God]
Romans 13:5
Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. [government]
Ephesians 5:21
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. [each other]
Ephesians 6:1
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. [parents – children]
Hebrews 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. [church]
Colossians 3:18
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. [husbands – wives]
1 Peter 2:18
Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. [employer – employee]
Therefore, submit yourself to God and the authorities He’s placed over you. For this is good and pleasing to God!
