Don’t be deceived

Is the Pope biblical?

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.  –  Colossians 2:8

People can argue from many different and varied perspectives, philosophies, traditions and beliefs.  Everyone has an opinion.  But don’t be deceived.  If what someone tells you doesn’t match up with God’s Word then toss it.

I was having lunch today with a friend.  As I explained the things of Christ, salvation, God’s coming judgment and more, he would push back with arguments from what he’s either read in books or from his religious understanding.  He rejected a lot of what I had to say.  My constant response to him for his arguments were “What do you base that belief on?” or “Where do you get that from?”  Finally, I asked him when the last time he read his Bible.  He said about six months ago.  I said to him, “You haven’t read your Bible for six months and you’re arguing and disagreeing with me about the truth I’ve been explaining?”  Needless to say, I encouraged him to read his Bible and not to rely on spoken or published beliefs without putting it to the scriptural test.

There are a lot of things that are taught from various Christian denominations and Roman Catholicism that do not match up with scripture.  Those things need to be tossed, in favor of the inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God!
