The Bookshelf

Welcome to my recommended reading page!  Titles will be added as I continue to read and study.  I pass these on in hopes that they will be a blessing to you as they have been to me in helping to better understand our Christian faith and practice.  Of course no amount of worthwhile books should replace the priority in which we should be spending time in God’s Word, the Bible.  But you already knew this, didn’t you?  If you have any feedback after reading these books, or recommendations of your own, please feel free to leave a reply below.  Blessings to you in your reading!

Living by the Book
Living by the Book, Howard Hendricks
How to study the Bible, using the methods of observation, interpretation and application.  All too often people want to jump from a surface reading of the text right into how it applies to them.  This is an irresponsible and immature handling of God’s Word.  This book teaches us how to use objective methods in understanding the original author’s intent and the original audience’s understanding.  Grammatical, historical, literary and contextual understanding is emphasized.  Check out the companion workbook too.
D. L. Moody (Heroes of the Faith)
D. L. Moody (Heroes of the Faith), Bonnie Harvey
The life story of an incredible man of faith that God used to bring the gospel message to an entire generation.  A minister and caregiver to orphans.  Very well worth the read.  Inspiring, to say the least!
Heaven is a Place on Earth
Heaven is a Place on Earth, Michael Wittmer
This book helps us develop a biblical understanding that our lives here on earth matter and that we were created to live here on earth, not heaven.
